The purpose of the summit was to provide a platform for debate and sharing of ideas and experiences of this prevalent crime in South Africa. Kyle’s specific presentation addressed the latest technology developments in combating copper cable theft. The focus of his presentation was around the permanent marking of the metal inside the cable casings. The solution presented included marking the metal at defined intervals. When cables are installed, the numbers on each end of the cable are recorded to that location so that if the cable is stolen, the numbers and installation location are known when the numbers are scanned from the metal. If the markings are sanded or ground off, the person in possession of the metal has questions to answer.
This is just one of many solutions Kyle has available to fight crime in South Africa!
